As part of intersessional activities in the lead up to AMED II to be held in Egypt in 2007, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia are co-chairing a Working Group on Political and Security Issues; Egypt and Thailand are co-chairing a Working Group on Economic Issues; and Jordan and Singapore are co-chairing a Working Group on Social, Educational, Scientific, Cultural, Environmental and Media (SESCEM) Issues.

Egypt and Thailand convened the inaugural meeting of the Economic Issues Working Group from 3-4 July 2006 in Bangkok.
